Does Cobb Can Move have an ending?

Yes — Story mode has an ending. The campaign is seven levels long, and finishing level 7 completes the run and resolves the escape arc. There is no large cutscene or boss fight; the ending is the act of escaping — quiet, deliberate, in keeping with the rest of the game's tone.

Endless mode does not end. Since v1.3 it begins at level 3 and continues with escalating pressure until Cobb catches you. There is no ceiling and no win state — every Endless run ends in a death.

The final level (level 7)

Level 7 is the toughest level in the Story campaign — but it is built from the same systems as every other level, not a special boss room. Expect:

  • A new rule roll, just like every other level — you do not know which modifier Cobb will use until the rule banner appears.
  • A possible debuff (freezing or starving) on top of the rule.
  • Tighter routing — the generator tends to make level 7 feel especially mean. Plan the breaker and exit order before you commit to a path.
  • The same win condition as every level: flip the right breakers, keep enough rooms lit to survive, and reach the exit. Surviving level 7 ends the Story campaign.

If you keep dying on level 7 to the same rule, read the rules explained guide for that specific modifier's counter and check the survival tips.

What happens in a single run

  1. Layout generation. Each level builds a new dungeon layout — rooms, lights, breakers, exit — from a procedural generator.
  2. Rule roll. A rule banner appears at the start of the level. It tells you how Cobb hunts you this time (HEAR, SEE, SMELL, REACH, DUPLICATE, FASTER) and any debuff applied to you.
  3. Scavenge phase. You collect coal to fuel light sources, eat carrots to counter starvation, and pick up rocks to throw.
  4. Routing phase. Flip breakers in an order that opens your escape path while keeping the rooms you still need to cross from going dark.
  5. Pressure phase. Cobb's activity ramps up. Depending on the rule, this can mean louder noise tracking, harder line-of-sight breaks, or multiple Cobbs.
  6. Resolution. You either escape through the exit (campaign progresses by one level), or Cobb reaches you (run ends).

Are there jumpscares?

Cobb Can Move is not built around cheap jumpscares. The tension comes from the rule banner, sound design, light management and the moment-to-moment threat of Cobb closing the gap. That said, Cobb's grab animation is sharp and sudden enough to feel like one — when it catches you, it lands hard.

If you are sensitive to jumpscares: there is no flashing-image effect, no abrupt loud screamer audio, and no fake-out scares between levels. The frightening moments are earned by play, not by ambush.
